Accessible or Not?

How it works

Every card is real code, and every answer is measured

There are 92 cards in the deck right now: 45 that pass and 47 that fail. None of them are drawn by hand or generated as pictures. Each one is a small interface built in HTML and CSS, rendered in a real browser, and screenshotted only after it passes the checks below.

Verified before it ships

Each card is run through axe-core 4.11 with the WCAG 2.2 A and AA rules, plus a direct measurement for the skill it teaches. A card that passes must have zero problems of any kind. A card that fails must have exactly one: the one it is teaching. If any measurement disagrees with the answer, the card is rejected.

Text contrast
Computed from the actual colors with the WCAG relative luminance formula, with the large text threshold applied by real font size and weight.
Text over images
The text is hidden, the image behind it is screenshotted, and every pixel under the letters is measured. Pass cards must clear the bar at the worst pixel.
Controls
Field borders, checkbox outlines, switch tracks and icons are measured against the color right next to them, against the 3:1 bar.
Target size
axe-core's WCAG 2.2 target size rule decides, including the spacing exception, and the real sizes and gaps are recorded.
Keyboard focus
The card is tabbed to with a real keyboard event. Screenshots before and after focus are compared pixel by pixel.
Focus hidden by overlays
The focused element and the overlay are measured. Fully covered fails, partly covered passes the AA rule.
Use of color
The card is checked for a non-color cue: an underline, icon, label, pattern or text.

The numbers in each explanation, like a 2.85:1 contrast ratio or a 16 px button, are the measured values, not estimates. All brands, products and people on the cards are made up.

Scores and the daily average

Each correct swipe is one point, ten points a deck. Everyone gets the same daily deck, which changes at 00:00 UTC.

“You beat 61% of players” means 61% of the other people who played that deck scored lower than you. It only appears once at least 5 other people have played, so early numbers are not misleading.

Only your first finished round of a day counts toward the average.

Streaks

Your streak is the number of days in a row you finished the daily deck. Miss a day and it starts again.

Streaks and past scores live in your browser, so they stay on the device and browser you play on.

What this game is not

It is practice, not an audit. The cards cover issues you can judge by eye. Real accessibility also depends on things you cannot see in a screenshot, like screen reader labels, keyboard order and captions, which need testing on the live product.

Is your own site accessible or not?

Axeazy scans your real pages for WCAG issues like the ones in this deck and opens code fixes, not an overlay. Free scan in 60 seconds, no credit card.
